On July 8, 1776 Patriot John Nixon made the very First Public Proclamation Reading of the Declaration of Independence, read from the steps of the Pennsylvania State House, General George Washington’s Aide-de-Camp; Financier and Official Director of of the Bank of North America of Philadelphia, who served as a Militia Officer in the American Revolutionary War, and Chairman of the Committee of Safety. Prolific author and lecturer, and the third wife of George E. Pickett (1861-1865), the Confederate General best known for his participation in the doomed frontal assault known as “Pickett’s Charge” during the American Civil War at Gettysburg. Lot: 31		1789 Major General Andrew Porter Autograph Document Signed, Applies for Surveyor General of Pennsylvania ANDREW PORTER (1743-1813). Revolutionary War Captain of Marines, Colonel in the 4th Pennsylvania Artillery, Tasked by General George Washington to Prepare Artillery for the Siege of Yorktown, Porter rose to rank of Major General, later declined the positions of Brigadier General in the U.S. Army, and as U.S. Secretary of War, because of his advanced age, he is one of the most Prominent Members of the Society of the Cincinnati of Pennsylvania. Estimate: $1,800 - $2,000
Lot: 32		Commodore David Porter Signed Manuscript Pay Order DAVID PORTER (1780-1843). United States Navy officer with the rank of Captain and the title of Commodore. Porter commanded a number of U.S. Navy Warships, including the famous frigate USS Constitution, seeing active service in the First Barbary War, the War of 1812, and in the West Indies. Estimate: $600 - $800

Pringle” Speaker of the House of Representatives South Carolina for Travel Expense Headed: “In the House of REPRESENTATIVES, 1787” JOHN JULIUS PRINGLE (1753-1843). South Carolina Politician and lawyer who Published Articles in Defence of Colonial Rights, Speaker of the State Assembly (1787-1789); from 1792 till 1808 he served as District Attorney-General of South Carolina by special request of George Washington; in 1805 President Thomas Jefferson tendered him the 1787 JOHN JULIUS PRINGLE South Carolina Patriot + Speaker of the State Assembly; Attorney-Generalship of the United States, but family reasons induced him to decline. Lot: 35		Commodore John Rodgers as President of the Navy Board American Naval Commissioner to Charter a Vessel in 1817 COMMODORE JOHN RODGERS (1772-1838). Senior Naval Officer in the United States Navy who served under Six Presidents in the Quasi-War with France, both Barbary Wars in North Africa, and the War of 1812 with Britain as Rodgers fired the first shot of the War aboard his flagship, the USS President, and played a leading role in the recapture of Washington, DC after the Capital was Burned by the British, he served as Secretary of the Navy in 1823. Estimate: $600 - $800

ROOSEVELT (1882-1945). 32nd President of the United States, serving from 1933 until his death in 1945; regarded as one of the greatest presidents in U.S. history; served as the Governor of New York from 1929 to 1933; elected President in 1932, the only president to serve four terms in office, winning re-election in 1936, 1940, and 1944; passed away in April 1945, just weeks before the end of World War II. Baron de Rothschild, English-German banker of Jewish heritage, businessman and financier of the second generation of the Rothschild Banking dynasty which was to become N. M. Rothschild & Sons. First person of Jewish faith admitted to the House of Lords. A Freemason, in the aftermath of the British Slavery Abolition Act 1833, with the Slave Compensation Act 1837, Rothschild and his business partner Moses Montefiore loaned the British Government 15 million (worth 1.46 billion in 2022), used to compensate the Slave owners in the British Empire after the Slave Trade had been Abolished. U.S. Navy Officer; Appointed Midshipman in 1828; Served in the Mexican War; During the Civil War, commanded the USS Fort Jackson during the attacks on Fort Fisher, NC; On June 2, 1865, he took formal possession of Galveston, Texas for the Union; Appointed Commodore in 1866; Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Observatory, 1867 to 1874; Appointed Rear Admiral in 1871. American Revolutionary War Period Patriot Chaplain, Preacher and Historian, who published “Twelve Discourses on the Divine Origin of the Holy Scriptures”, “A General History of the United States of America”, “A Complete History of Connecticut, Civil and Ecclesiastical, from the Emigration of Its First Planters from England, in 1630, to the Year 1764; and to the Close of the Indian Wars” and others. Lot: 48		1795 Caleb Gibbs Writes Concerning His Clerk’s Salaries and the Charlestown, Massachusetts Naval Yard Workload CALEB GIBBS (1748-1818). Appointed by George Washington to command his “Commander-In-Chief Guards”; active with the Sons of Liberty; at the start of the Revolutionary War Gibbs was Captain in the 14th Massachusetts Regiment from Marblehead and his unit marched to the Lexington-Concord Alarm on April 19, 1775; wounded at Yorktown; Appointed to a key post at the newly established Charlestown Navy Yard and was involved in the building of such ships as the famed U.S.S.
