British Brown Bess Naval Service Pattern Socket Bayonet

British Brown Bess Naval Service Pattern Socket Bayonet, Stamped “MAKIN” on the Blade face, fully 21” in length, Choice Extremely Fine.

The blade on this attractive Bayonet measures 17” long and the 4” socket brings it to a full 21” in length. Stamped “MAKIN” on the blade face likely c. 1839, with a Crown over 6 and 8; the socket has a later Engraved “89” with a cutout Lovell catch sighting notch in the rim. This type is illustrated in British & Commonwealth Bayonets, by Skennerton & Richardson, pages 105. In nice clean condition with minimal oxidation and choice smooth surfaces.
