1879 Patent-Dated, J. E. Stevens, Cast Iron, Polychrome Painted Mechanical Bank, Jockey on Horseback, "I Always Did 'Spise a Mule." Fine.

Original Painted Mechanical Bank with title, "I Always Did 'Spise a Mule.", produced by the J. E. Stevens Company patent dated 1879. The theme depicting a Black Jockey atop a racehorse who is thrown off when the coin lever is pushed. The mechanism releases the coin held in his mouth into the slot at the top end of the bank’s base. This example has wear from use to its original polychrome paint. The reins strap in the Jockey’s hand has separated, and the front bill of the Jockey’s hat is lacking. Overall, worthwhile for display yet in reed of some conservation, sold “as is” as such. This popular “Spise a Mule" theme Mechanical Bank remains in working condition.
