August 14, 1861-Dated Civil War Period, Virginia General Orders No. 32, to be executed by Brigadier General William Tecumseh Sherman from Brigadier General McDowell, to arrest 62 Soldiers, Extremely Fine.

August 14, 1861-Dated Virginia General Orders No. 32 measuring 5” x 7.5” from the desk of James B. Fry, Assistant Adjutant General to Brigadier General McDowell. Orders reads, in part: “Sixty-two non-commissioned officers and privates of the 2d Maine Regiment of Volunteers, having formally and positively, in the presence of their regiment, refused to do any further duty whatever, falsely alleging that they were no longer in the service of the United States, they are, with approval of the General-in-Chief, hereby transferred in arrest from their regiment, as no longer worthy to serve with it...”. These Orders to be executed by Brigadier General William Tecumseh Sherman.
