c. 1876 Centennial Period, Commemorative Woven Silk Portrait of Abraham Lincoln, by Carquillat and Allardet, France, Listed in “THREADS OF HISTORY” as Item Number 406, Very Fine.

Handsome commemorative woven silk portrait of President Abraham Lincoln, measures a large 8.5” x 10.75” with a black silk woven image upon an off-white silk field. An impressive central design showing a large portrait image of a bearded Abe Lincoln with a large Heraldic American Eagle with shield and wreath of sprigs below. A pleasing example with just some light tone and strong color. This large Lincoln Silk Memorial was likely produced made for the 1876 American Centennial, being the type illustrated in the Smithsonian’s reference book “THREADS OF HISTORY” as Number 406, on page 196. Scarce.
