1865 Andrew Johnson Indian Peace Medal, Struck in Bronze, First Largest Size, engraved by Anthony C. Paquet, Julian IP-40, Musante GW-770, Baker-173X variety (Unlisted in Bronze metallic composition). NGC graded Mint State-63 Brown.

76 mm. Anthony Paquet prepared the deeply basined (engraved) dies for this issue that he turned over to the Philadelphia Mint in late October 1865. It is known that all 90 Silver large size and 90 Silver small size medals were struck in December 1865 and January 1866. This Unlisted “Bronze” metal Indian Peace Medal is boldly struck in sharp relief, having a beautiful appearance. This important medal has near perfect semi-prooflike natural even brown surfaces (NGC undergraded in our opinion). Significant underlying satiny luster is obvious, making this medal’s eye appeal being excellent for display.
