c. 1730 Colonial Period, Hand-Colored Copper-plate Engraved Map of New England in America entitled, “NOVA ANGLIA Septentrionali America implantata Anglorumque coloniis florentiffima,” by Johannes Baptista Homann (1664-1724), Nuremberg, Framed, Choice Very Fine.

Lovely original Colonial era Engraved Map of New England in America that nicely Hand-colored with a wonderful vignette. This large double-page Folio Map measures 24.5” x 21” (by sight), professionally newly matted and framed displayed under special UV Plexiglas to fully 25.75” x 29.5” displaying its Copper-Plate engraving on two large joined sheets, as made. There is a decorative Title Cartouche in the lower right, with still-vibrant coloring, that displays a vignette of a Sailing Ship in the background, a finely dressed European “merchant trader” who inspects a Beaver pelt that has been presented for trade by a Native American Indian hunter with Bow and Arrows, with some trade goods shown scattered between them.

This historic Map shows from lower Canada down the American East Coast to Philadelphia and the lower part of New Jersey. Its original colors are strong, in mossy green, tan and having a pale pinkish-red border outlined. Numerous rivers, cities and various diverse Native Indian Tribes are noted. Vertical centerfold where the two sheets are attached as normal. A very desirable, colorful Map, with a great historical scene vignette at lower right and nice overall eye appeal. Beautifully framed and ready to hand on display.
