“May the Genius of LIBERTY Be proof against the evils of TYRANNY” Revolutionary War Battersea Enameled Box

c. 1776 Revolutionary War Era, Battersea Enameled Box with Historic Patriotic Political Legend on the White Top Lid reading: “May the Genius of LIBERTY Be proof against the evils of TYRANNY", Cracks on lid, Fine.

Very rare Oval Shape British export Battersea Enameled Hindged Box, measuring 1.375" in length x 1.0" high. The original top hinged lid inscribed with the political legend reading: "May the Genius of LIBERTY Be proof against the evils of TYRANNY".

The enameled box itself has wear on the lower portion robin’s egg blue color enamel, while the brass surround top lid has black print on white enamel. There are fine surface hairline cracks and craze, and one small chip on part of the word "LIB(ERTY)" and two other small chips in the enamel along the base edge of the box as shown. These historic theme decorated boxes were destined to be sold in the American market. Examples bearing highly charged political subject matter such as this example, are highly prized by collectors of authentic Revolutionary War artifacts.
