June 11, 1847, Letter Requesting an Extension Of a Furlough, Washington D.C., Very Fine.
9.5" x 7.75", 2 pages, lined paper, in brown ink. This letter was written by a Robert Klolz to R.Jones, his boss, requesting another 30 days off work. A previous letter had been sent, with no response. Now being the second letter Robert will have sent, he needs to know if he is allowed another leave due to his illness he received on a vessel headed towards New Orleans. On the reverse is the postage information: it boasts a red ink, number "5" stamp that has been crossed out, and the word "Free" has been written in place of it. The word "haste" is also written under the red ink "Mauch Church, PA" stamp on the left side of the integral, in hopes of speeding up the mailing process. Aging in creases and ink smears on a few words, this letter is in excellent condition for the age!!
