1866 Historic Report from President Andrew Johnson Regarding "The Discovery And Arrest of John H. Surratt"
December 10, 1866-Dated Abraham Lincoln Assassination related Historic House of Representatives Report from President Andrew Johnson regarding, "The Discovery And Arrest of John H. Surratt" to Congress, Choice Very Fine.
This important historical printed Report is 33 pages in length, measuring 6" x 9.5" with a pleasing appearance. It has its original thread binding present. Some sections and pages are loose and the outer edges are rough with some minor chipping from use. The House of Representatives Report details the discovery and arrest of John H. Surratt (1844-1916). Surratt was accused of plotting with John Wilkes Booth to kidnap President Abraham Lincoln and suspected of involvement in the Lincoln assassination. Surratt avoided arrest immediately after the assassination by fleeing the country. He served briefly as a Papal Zouaves (an infantry force formed in defense of the Papal States) under the name of John Watson before his arrest and extradition (page 7). By the time he returned to the United States, the statute of limitations had expired on most of the potential charges and he was not convicted. A very rare Abraham Lincoln Assassination related material.
