Also Signed, "ISAAC ROOSEVELT" and "HARMAN HOFFMAN" at lower left as witnesses. Also Signed, "CHRISTOPHER ROOSEVELT" on the reverse side Docket.
This large historic Ornate Manuscript Document measures 16" x 17" and records the sale of land for the paltry sum of "Five Shillings Current Money of New York, by Jacobus Roosevelt to his son Christopher Roosevelt. The boundaries of the land and property are detailed in location within the text, mentioning, "...bounded North on the Highway East (of) St. James Street South by Lott No.62 West by Lott No.59 ... Together with all and singular Ways Passages Water Watercourses Easements Profits Comodities Emoluments and Advanatges Whatsoeverto said Lotts... (in New York). Later added property records clerks notation thru 1794. The reason for the bargain sale? It was stated within as:

"... For and in Consideration of the Natural Love and Affection which (Jacobus) has and bears towards him the said Christopher Roosevelt his son...".

Docket at top reverse is written in First Person, stating "MY FATHER" apparently written in the hand of, thus Also Signed, "CHRISTOPHER ROOSEVELT", the Docket reading, in full: "Deed of Christopher Roosevelt from my father Jacobus Roosevelt for three Lotts of Ground - No.60-61-65"

Signed at bottom by Jas. (Jacobus) Roosevelt, Isaac Roosevelt and Harman Hoffman. Though important, this document is in rough condition, having splits and chips lacking along most of the folds and reassembled and reinforced with modern archival tape on the back which also has numerous notations and later recording, certainly worthy of restoration as shown. Some paper loss affects some of the text and a fold split runs through the J of Jacobus' signature. Nonetheless, the connection between several generations of Roosevelts is significant.

Jacobus Roosevelt was born 1692 in New York City to Nicholas Roosevelt (1658-1742) and Heyltje Jans Kunst (1664) and died 5 May 1776 in New York City of unspecified causes. He married Catharine Hardenbroeck (1694-1739) January 31, 1713 in New York City. Christoper Roosevelt, son of Jacobus, was born in 1724.
