Lot of FOUR Pages from "Gleason's Pictorial" Newspaper
c. 1852-53-Dated, FOUR (4) Historical Pages from, "GLEASON'S PICTORIAL," Boston (MA.), Extremely Fine.
"Gleason's Pictorial Drawing Room Companion" was an illustrated periodical publication printed in Boston in the 1850s. This lot is for Four (4) unbound pages including (3) Front Copver Sheets, each measure 11" x 14.75", Three (3) of which are "front pages."

1. October 16, 1852-Dated Front Page. Vol. III, No. 16. Features a naval scene in the masthead, and an illustration of "Appearance of the New Cavalry Company, The Light Dragoons, of Boston, on Their First Uniform Parade" in the lower half of the page. On verso is a story "Corinne Almanza, The Magician of Seville." Light age toning, small binding holes along left margin.

2. June 18, 1853-Dated Front Page. Vol. IV, No. 25. Features a naval scene in the masthead, and the lower half of the page features a memorial illustration of Joseph Warren, killed in the Battle of Bunker Hill on June 17, 1775. On verso is a story "Hildebrand: The Buccaneer and the Cardinal."

3. November 12, 1853-Dated Front Page. Vol. V, No. 20. Features a naval scene in masthead, the same illustration as the June 18 edition, with a larger engraving "First Battalion of Rifles, of West Newbury, on Boston Common" on lower half of page. Story on verso: "Olivia Trevett: The Patriot Cruiser."

4. Undated Interior Page with Excellent Historic Content. With three engraved illustrations: "Fort Independence, Boston Harbor," "Ancient Tombstone at Castle Island," and "Monument on Castle Island." Story on verso: "The Captain's Protege." Trival edge tear.

A wonderful collection of historical pages from this 19th Century newspaper, full of marvellous engraved illustrations and period stories. Each would add to an excellent display! (4 items)
