c. 1850 "YOKOHAMA. JAPAN." Japanese Imports Early Trade Card for I. Bush & Co., Importers of English & American Goods (San Francisco), Choice Very Fine.

Very Rare early Japanese Imports Printed Trade Card, circa 1850, for I. Bush & Co. Importers of English and American Goods. This historic Japan Trade Card reads, in full: "A fine stock of Oilmen Stores, Provisions, Wines, Spirits; also, a well selected stock of Boots, Shoes and Clothing. New goods received by every steamer. - No. 97 Homo Road. -- Yokohama. - Japan." Black text and designs on White Card, measures 2" x 3.5". Notations written in Japanese in ink on its verso. Slight vertical crease on right hand side. We found this firm doing commerce in San Francisco pre-Civil War -- no doubt one of the earliest commercial efforts to open trade to the "mysterious Orient" during the formal "Opening" of Japan to the United States!
