1776 Revolutionary War CT. Pay-Master's Appointment to Raise a Continental Army Company in New York
June 21, 1776-Dated Revolutionary War, Partially-Printed Document, Connecticut Pay-Master's Appointment and $3,000 to Raise a Company of Soldiers to join the Continental Army in New York, Signed "Jonah Gillet," Very Fine.
An important Document for raising troops for George Washington's Continental Army, 1 page, measuring 8.75" x 14", from Connecticut. Dated June 21, 1776, it is appointing "Jonah Gillet Pay-Master to his own Company, now to be raised, to join the Continental Army in New York." $3,000 is funded for the payment of troops. Docketed on the verso. Slight separation along the folds. The troops raised by this document were enlisted for six months. Therefore, these soldiers were to cross the Delaware river with George Washington on his historic march on Trenton, New Jersey which resulted in the salvation of the American Army. These troops were to be discharged, but they reenlisted after the American success at Trenton.
