Four Portrait Prints of Famous Americans: Stephen Girard, Dr. David Hosack, William White and Fitz Green Halleck

c. 1850, Lot of 4 Portrait Prints of Famous Americans, Stephen Girard, Dr. David Hosack, William White and Fitz Green Halleck, Steel Engravings, overall Very Fine.

These steel engraving prints, dating from the 1830s into the 1860s, mostly around 10" x 8," all have blank backs.

1. DAVID HOSACK, engraved by A.B. Durand, from a painting by Sully, published by James Herring and dated 1834, very nice condition with some light age spots, mostly along the bottom edge.

2. STEPHEN GIRARD, published by Johnson, Fry and Company and dated 1863, very nice condition aside from some toning spots and a small damp stain in the top margin.

3. WILLIAM WHITE, unsigned engraving from a painting by Sully, published by Johnson, Fry & Company, very nice condition, with a small damp stain in the top margin.

4. FITZ GREEN HALLECK, unsigned engraving from a painting by Chappel, published by Johnson, Fry & Company and dated 1867, nice condition, aside from a large damp stain at the top and some scattered light age toning.

A nice group of portraits which could be trimmed and framed for display. (4 prints)

Stephen Girard (1750-1831) was a merchant, banker and philanthropist.

David Hosack (1769-1835) was a physician and early American scientist.

William White (1748-1836) was the first Bishsop of the Episcopal Church in the United States and the first Bishop for Pennsylvania Diocese.

Fitz-Green Halleck (1790"1867) was an American poet.
