1781 Revolutionary War Date Broadsheet ACT of New Hampshire to Provide Rum to the Continental Army

August 31, 1781-Dated Revolutionary War, Broadsheet titled, "AN ACT for Supplying the Continental Army with Ten Thousand Gallons of West-India RUM," State of New-Hampshire, Choice Vey Fine.

Original Broadside was Printed in Exeter, NH. by Zacharias Fowle. It has 4 printed pages with choice eye appeal on clean laid period paper, measuring 13.5" x 6" (folded) in wonderful condition. A rare Revolutionary War Broadsheet detailing each New Hampshire town's proportional share of rum required, the minimum being 15 gallons, with most towns having to provide well over that quantity. Print quality remains bright and bold, and bottom has been Signed in Print "John Langdon" and "Meshech Weare". At bottom of the front page it has been Signed in brown ink, "John Windell Timothy." This historic Broadsheet ACT for Contiental Army provisions was meant for the town of Hillboro as "Hillboro" (sic) has been handwritten in the upper right corner. One light fold along with a few minor age spots which hardly detracts from the crisp bright text and excellent laid period paper quality. Evans 17253.

Additional Information:

John Langdon served as the first President pro tempore of the Senate, in addition to serving as Governor of New Hampshire. He is considered the most important New Hampshire politician of his era. Meshech Weare was the first governor of the state (when the office bore the title of "president").
