Nathaniel Ames (1708-1764), was a Colonial American physician who also published a popular series of annual Almanacs. He was the son of Nathaniel Ames first (1677-1736) and the father of Nathaniel and Fisher Ames. The family was descended from William Ames of Bruton, Somerset, England, whose son William emigrated to Massachusetts and settled at Braintree as early as 1640. This extremely early Almanack dated 1734 is nicely printed and clean in black ink on early Colonial laid period paper. Measures about 4.25” x 7”, 14 pages, string bound and complete, some pages partially separating at the spine, with some edge chipping and loss at bottom right corners to the front and back covers. |
