March 15th, 1854-Dated Gold Rush Era, with March 28 Postmarked, Gold Mining related Family Correspondence 2 page Letter and Envelope during the California Gold Rush, , Fine.

Handwritten 2-page Letter from a man living in Plumb Valley, Calif. who had moved to California to become a Gold Miner. In this letter, Ned writes to his brother Charles (still living in Maine), expressing his concerns regarding the future prospects of Gold Mining. It reads, in part:
"Mining business is not prospering very well with me, for I am not making money as fast I would like... Charles as to your coming to California I think your chances would be better to remain in the Atlantic States...".
This Letter measures 7.5" x 9.5" and the circular hand stamped date with a "10" cent stamped postage, with its Postally Used Transmittal Envelope measuring 3 1/8" x 5 3/8". Folds, some minor ink smudging and tone, written on blue wove period paper. Both items are in fine condition. (2 items)
