WILLIAM COWPER (1731-1800). English Poet and Hymnodist, wrote “God moves in a mysterious way / His wonders to perform.”, also wrote a number of Anti-Slavery poems including the historic “The Negro's Complaint” (1788) which was often quoted by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the American Civil Rights movement.

December 11, 1760-Dated, Partly-Printed financial Document Signed, “Cowper” in bold brown at bottom right, measuring 8” x 12”, 1 page, no place, Very Fine. Some top edge irregularity and a short 1” margin tear at top edge. Boldly printed “Annuity of 1706” Record and Payment Document by which William Cowper confirms his receipt of "the Sum of Fifty Pounds" from "Lord Royston, One of the Four Tellers of His Majesty's Receipt of Exchequer." witness by “Robert Woodford”. An unusual very rare, and Black History related, French and Indian War period signed financial document by the famous historic British Anti-Slavery advocate and poet William Cowper.
