War of 1812 Period, “General Jackson Hero of New Orleans”, 7” Tall Staffordshire Transfer-Printed Copper Lustre Pitcher, by Enoch Wood and Sons, England, Choice Near Mint.

This popular 7 inch high Pitcher has a great historic Transfer with the legend, “General Jackson Hero of New Orleans” was all the rage in American in commemoration of his great victory over the British, even if it did technically occur after the War officially ended. This lovely Pitcher was produced by the firm of Enoch Wood and Sons, England, with each side displaying a Portrait of General Andrew Jackson, in black and set against deep blue background. The decorative bright copper beaded rim and added still life images of fruit and foliage are added beneath molded spout. The Portrait transfer is J.4 and illustrated on page 112 in David and Linda Arman's reference: “Anglo-American Ceramics, Part I: Transfer Printer Creamware and Pearlware for the American Market, 1760-1860”, Oakland Press: Portsmouth, Rhode Island, 1998, which is highly recommended for all collectors of this field. Overall, only a hint of slight wear with minor rubbing to handle from use, being bright and excellent for display.
