c. 1770 Revolutionary War Period, Doctor’s Medical Hand Saw and Knife Edge Combination Tool, Very Fine.

This “double-duty” Knife and Saw Medical Hand Tool measures about 10.5” in total length and its Saw Blade measures about 7” long. The Wooden lathe-turned plain wood handle appears to be fully original with wear consistent with age. One side of the blade has a keen knife edge, while the other side is thicker and has Hand-cut Saw Teeth for sawing through bone. The rounded tip of the blade was also sharpened to a fine edge. This would have been a handy and necessary tool for the frequent amputations of Revolutionary War soldiers’ feet, hands, arms, and legs. The blade has been polished to remove old rust and has a nice, steel color. The overall condition is very nice. The first of this rare “double-duty” Knife and Saw Medical Hand Tool we have offered.
