c. 1790 Federal Period, Wax Seal with “George Washington” Portrait, Carnelian Ring, Choice Extremely Fine.

An impressive Federal period Wax Seal Carnelian Ring with George Washington’s Portrait. Museum quality, original Ring with an inset majestic portrait bust image of George Washington, engraved in deep red Carnelian, for use as a Wax Seal bearing his image. The portrait is set into a decorative ornately styled brass housing, and has added sides and height for easy handling and for its intended use a wax seal. The oval base measures approximately 1.25” tall x 1.0” wide x 1.5” tall. The engraved George Washington Portrait is in exceptionally choice condition and is apparently ready for use. This remarkable museum quality ring is absolutely of the period and similar to other wax seal rings we have offered, though not of the historic caliber of President Washington. Ex: EAHA Auction, April 22, 2006, Lot 216 where it sold for $3,835.
