Woodrow Wilson “Mayor’s Independence Day Committee” Gold-Gilt Medal with Silk Ribbon and Pinback Dated 1917

1917-Dated, President Woodrow Wilson, “Mayor’s Independence Day Committee” Gold-Gilt Medal with Silk Ribbon and Pinback, Choice Near Mint.

This attractive, 31 mm diameter Medal was issued by the Mayor of the City of New York to promote safe celebrations of the July 4th Independence Day celebrations. The front of the medal features a bust of Woodrow Wilson at center, facing right, with an enameled flag above. A sailor and an Army corpsman flank Wilson’s bust and an eagle sits atop the flag. The motto “Mayor’s Independence Day Committee” surrounds. The back of the medal features a male and a female jogging through a park. Above them is “City of New York 1917”. The motto “Safe and Sane Fourth of July” appears above and “Athletic Carnival” appears below. A colorful red-white-and blue silk ribbon attaches to an integral hanging loop with its original pinback intact. The total measurement of the hanger and the medal is 3”. Very attractive and in excellent condition. Scarce.
