c. 1860s Civil War / Assassination Memorial Era, Miniature Oval Watercolor Portrait of Abraham Lincoln as President, Period Framed under Beveled Glass, Choice Near Mint.

This wonderful colorful Portrait of President Lincoln is Painted in Watercolor on contemporary material, no signature or date, backed by printed paper. It is housed in its original black painted wood frame with a central oval brass insert, also with a brass “Dove of Peace” decoration at the top loop for hanging. The oval painting of Lincoln measures 2" x 2.5" and the frame measures fully 4" x 4.75" under its original lightly Beveled Glass. This Portrait is essentially mint “as painted” having no visible defects; the period frame is slightly scuffed with some minor wear as expected. The reverse of the frame has some very old printed paper for backing that mentions Pope Callistus, likely taken from a bible. Under the paper is the brass “teeth” that hold the portrait within the frame (not examined out of its frame). Note: disregard the old asking price of $10.00 from some ancient time. A superb Painting showing Lincoln in a fine brown suitcoat with exceptional sharpness, vibrance, and eye appeal.
