1864 Abraham Lincoln Presidential Campaign Broadside Headed, “WHAT JEFF. DAVIS THINKS OF THE WAR.” published by the National Union Executive Committee, Astor House, NY., Fine.

This historic Abe Lincoln Campaign Broadside measuring 11.5" x 8.75" divided into a two column format. Fully readable and complete, boldly headed: “WHAT JEFF. DAVIS THINKS OF THE WAR.” printed in dark black on white wove period paper. The Broadside has scattered humidity spotting and a few small fold splits one about 2” long from wear, light spots, folds, a few marginal tears and chips as shown. This Presidential Campaign Broadside uses Jefferson Davis’ own words to refute the assertion of the Democrats made at their Chicago convention that the war had been a failure, and that hostilities should be ceased immediately.

The main text is taken from a speech Davis made at Macon, Georgia, detailing the suffering of the Confederate troops and the growing disparity in strength between the Union and Confederate armies. The conclusion is that the only way to end the war and restore peace reads, in part: “is by SUSTAINING THE GOVERNMENT AND PUSHING ON THE WAR... VOTE FOR LINCOLN !” An important political content, Abraham Lincoln 1864 Presidential Campaign Broadside.
