c. 1803, Washington Fame Medal, Uniface Electrotype Shell. Copper-Plated White Metal. Baker-84. Choice About Uncirculated.

Rare Washington Fame Medal electrotype copy pedigreed to the famous Norweb Collection. The obverse has a portrait of Geroge Washington facing right, with his name above and his dates below. The obverse surface of this 38 mm medal is copper and retains most of its original red-orange luster. The reverse is blank, without rim, and lead colored. The making of electrotype copies of rare coins or medals, for study, was a common practice in the early to mid-1800’s. A very rare and high quality Washington Medal with a great pedigree. Ex: Stack’s Norweb Collection sale, November 7, 2006, Lot 2087 (with auction tag).
