Superb General George Washington Watercolor on Ivory

Click an Image to Enlarge It
c. 1800s Federal Period Handpainted George Washington Portrait Watercolor on Ivory, Framed, Choice Near Mint.

This gorgeous depiction of George Washington shows him facing left being younger in age as a military officer dressed immaculately, the braids on his shoulder finely detailed, this uniform perfectly represented and colored. No maker, place or date present. This oval portrait measures 4” tall x 3.25” wide (not viewed out of its frame), housed inset within a lovely decorative walnut frame with an inner bright brass surround, shown under a slightly beveled glass, having a small period brass ring attached to the reverse for hanging in display. This handsome portrayal of George Washington is virtually perfect with exceptional eye appeal, having just three small outer edge chips in the Ivory at lower right, likely caused from prior movement in the frame, currently stabilized. One of the most detailed and pleasing portraits of Washington we have seen, including in museum collections.
