c. 1775 Revolutionary War Period, Hand-Stitched Embossed Decorative Leather or Deerskin Money Wallet, Choice Very Fine.
A museum quality, somewhat rectangular shaped money wallet measures about 3.5” x 5.25”. It has embossed double-line decorations and curved front flap and back. This wallet opens with three compartments correctly sized for carrying Colonial and Continental Currency Paper Money notes of the period. Well worn yet very supple brown leather with an integral top flap when closed. What makes this wallet special is the accompanying note that reads:
“This pocket Book was carried through the Revolution War by my Gran(d) (sic) Father Daniel Redington who was an officer during said war. - (Signed) J.S. Redington of Westport (CT)”.
There is a Daniel Redington listed in The following names have been given of Revolutionary pensioners who in “The Military History of Clinton County.” Page 430, recording a “Daniel Redington, private, Massachusetts Continental Line.” |
