Overall medium chestnut-brown in color. The obverse die was engraved by Salathiel Ellis, and the reverse die is by Joseph Willson (a design also used on Pierce and Fillmore medals) produced after 1862. It displays High Relief obverse details, on a thick planchet with defect free rims.” This is the largest size Buchanan Indian Peace Medal. It shows a Native American Indian Chief and a American Army Officer in discussion, with an American Flag and Axe and farming Plow between them, as the reverse design.
