1853-Dated Foldout Map, “Basin of the St. Lawrence Showing Also the Natural and Artificial Routes Between the Atlantic Ocean and the Interior of North America” by Thomas C. Keefer, Choice Very Fine.

Produced in 1853, a huge Engraved Fold-out Map of the “Basin of the St. Lawrence Showing Also the Natural and Artificial Routes Between the Atlantic Ocean and the Interior of North America” by Thomas C. Keefer, Printed on four sheets, now joined together to an impressive overall size of about 36” x 75”. Some fold toning and small pinholes at fold intersections, but otherwise nice and ready to be properly matted and/or framed. This map was produced for inclusion in a report by Israel De Wolf Andrews to the Secretary of the Treasury, which ultimately contained four maps bound into a single volume. This map shows the southern part of Canada and the northern part of the United States from the Great Lakes region eastward to the Atlantic. An inset shows the northern Atlantic Ocean centered between North America and Europe. Nicely detailed, though much has changed since 1853.
