The thin carved bone matrix has cracked into three pieces, which have been rejoined, the crack running above the eyebrows as shown. The background is a deeper even brown. Housed in a later period Civil War era thermoplastic case with a gold-gilt surround to the central portrait, with an intact working clasp. |
