Eaton & Gray Leather Covered Document Box Boston

c. 1825, American Brass Tacks Decorated Leather Covered Wood Document Box, made by Eaton & Gray with Label, Boston, Very Fine.

This decorative Leather Covered Wood Document Box measures about 12” long x 6” tall x 7.25” wide. Original front lock present, lacking key, brass top carrying plaque. Overall, it displays even wear from use, remaining in superior pleasing condition in appearance with extensive use of brass tacks for decoration. Ornate maker’s full Paper Label inside the top lid at center reads:

“Eaton & Gray, Saddlers, Harness, Trunk, & Cap Makers, 28, Marlboro’-Street, Boston. / Saddlery Ware, Harness and Trunks / Stock of every description, kept constantly for sale.”

Colorful marbled Paper-lined interior, both lid straps are fully intact and secured with brass tacks. The lid is covered with leather with decorative brass tacks. There are three period labels with prior owner’s name, “C. Nichols” one on the bottom, left side, and under the front lock.
