March 1845 Memorial Period, President Andrew Jackson Silk Portrait Mourning Ribbon with legend “The Union Must & shall be Preserved,” Sullivan-Fischer AJ-M5, Very Fine.
Sullivan-Fischer AJ-M5. A very scarce silk ribbon, Printed in Black on White Silk Ribbon, measuring about 5.75” x 3”. Boldly printed with crisp detailing of the portrait and text with some slight tone and a reverse old hinge trace in the upper portion, as shown. There is s short fold split in the silk near the top, far away from any print and a couple of light creases. At center is a classic Bust Portrait of President Jackson surrounded by a heavy black-ruled memorial frame with scalloped corners. Above, its printed legend in small script reads: “The Union Must & shall be Preserved”. Below it reads:
“ANDREW JACKSON / Born near Waxhaw Settlement South Carolina / March 15th 1767 / Died at the Hermitage June the 8th 1845.”
