1867-1888 The 8TH United States Cavalry Cloth Badge Insignia with Crossed Cavalry Swords of Gold Bullion
1867-1888 Indian Wars Period, 8th United States Cavalry Cloth Badge Insignia with central metal "8" above Crossed Cavalry Swords of Gold Bullion, Extremely Fine.

The 8th United States Cavalry Regiment was formed in 1866, and fought in the Indian Wars between 1867 and 1888, seeing action in Nevada, Oregon, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, the Dakotas and Montana. A nice sought-after original Cloth Badge Insignia from the Indian Wars era. It features Golden Crossed Sabers and is associated with the 8th US Cavalry, a unit that played a significant role in the conflict. This badge is made from high-quality Golden Bullion sewn in black cloth that measures about 3-7/8" x 2-1/2". A prior owner's collection erroneous note on the blank reverse side reads: "Civil War 8th US Cavalry" but as the 8th US Cavalry was first organized in 1866, he was mistaken as to its “Civil War” connection unless he meant “Era”.
