1889-Dated, Uniquely Designed Scrimshawed Powder Horn Signed with Engraved Maker’s name, “J T Jomteme,” its pour spout is carved depicting the eyes and mouth of a fish, Choice Very Fine.

This rare design Powder Horn measures about 9” long and 3” at the base. Hand-carved, Signed and Dated with “1889” and “J T Jomteme” (no place provided). Unique features include a carved wooden central “slide” within the base, measuring about 1/2” wide, for filling the horn, and at the top spout, it has a hand-carved wooden “stopper” that will turn as twisted, to allow the gun powder to flow and then seal tight, held in place with brass. The pour spout itself is nicely carved depicting the eyes and mouth of a fish! An ingenious well designed and highly efficient power horn in excellent overall condition and having deep clear carved date and owner’s name. A great example with its old leather strap attached, only lightly used and appears excellent for display.
