“E.H. Shepard” Artist Signed Original Published Illustration Artwork Fortune Teller President Franklin Roosevelt Warns Queen “EUROPA” of the Future Intent of Adolph Hitler as Seen in His Crystal Ball (a Menacing Crocodile)
ERNEST HOWARD SHEPARD (1879-1976). The “Winnie the Pooh” Famous Illustrator, for the series of books by author A.A. Milne, also the Creative Illustration Cartoonist for Punch Magazine from 1921-1953.

c. 1939, “E.H. Shepard” Artist Signed, Original Published Pencil Political Cartoon Illustration Artwork, Signed at lower right, “E.H. Shepard”, Choice Crisp Extremely Fine. This Hand-drawn artist signed original illustration measures about 8” x 10-3/4” depicting President Franklin Roosevelt, portrayed as a Spiritualist / Fortune Teller reading a crystal ball for lady “EUROPA”. The suggested caption below the title at bottom reads:

“A Wise Man From The West --- Professor Roosevelt. 'I see a man with a small dark moustache crossing your path during the first few months of the year.’” (obviously referring to Adolph Hitler).

This historic political cartoon illustration appeared published in Punch Magazine in 1939. The significance of the Crocodile hanging from the ceiling escapes us, but it may be another reference to the scaly and dangerous Hitler who is not to be trusted as a crocodile is ocean going and may badly bite you.

A unique, one-of-a-kind historic original Artwork illustration created and Signed, “E.H. Shepard” at lower right within the illustration. Paper is crisp never folded with rich dark pencil illustrations that have strong eye appeal. Ready for framing and display. Accompanied by PASS-CO Photo Certificate of Authentication as: “an authentic original illustration signed by Ernest Howard Shepard.”
