Complete reproduction issue of the "Independent Chronicle and Universal Advertiser", January 1, 1784, measuring 11.5” x 18”, 4 pages, possibly made c. 1875 for the American Centennial. The historic engraved Masthead Vignette illustration which has been attributed by various sources as after Paul Revere as it closely resembles Revere's Copper-Plate engraving of the Seal of the State of Massachusetts Bay depicting a Patriot Minuteman holding a Declaration of Independence in his left hand and his raised Sword in his right, as known to be on the “Sword in Hand” Colonial currency notes engraved for Massachusetts-Bay at the start of the American Revolutionary War. This newspaper issue includes two Ads from Paul Revere’s company. One Ad is for an assortment of imported plated ware, located on page 3. The second Ad for various general items, printed on page 4. Overall complete but has fold splits, marginal edge chips and small loss, not affecting the Paul Revere ads or masthead. A great item for “show and tell” and quite rare. |
