(1834-1845) American Military Sheet Music Bound Volume containing Thirty-One (31) pieces of Sheet Music, Six with Exceptional Color Lithograph Covers, the balance printed in Black & White, Ex: William M Guthman Collection with his Personal Bookplate, Extremely Fine.
An impressive Collection of (31) different Early American Military Sheet Music pieces is custom modern bound in blue buckram, its spine titled on gold gilt “MILITARY SHEET MUSIC” all Ex: William Guthman Collection. This collection comes with a complete printed listing of the thirty-one pieces of Sheet Music for the 1830s-1840s. This Volume opens to a lovely color lithograph of Boston printing, which depicts the American Flag Frigate USS CONSTITUTION (OLD IRONSIDES) sailing in Boston Harbor firing its cannon in a salute, the Bunker Hill Monument seen in the background. The other color lithographed covers are delightful, including a vivid red “WINCHESTER’S QUICK STEP”. In the list, #11,15 and 31 have only their litho covers, no music; #17, 18, 26 & 28 lack a page of music. There is some expected scattered tone and foxing, yet these were selected for their superior quality and content. These all appear to have been hand-selected to combine into this impressive bound volume. Individually, these sheet music pieces would typically sell for $100 to $300 and possibly more, suggesting a broken up value of about $3,500 or so. Overall, an important, extensive collection of Ex: Bill Guthman (1834-1845) American Military Sheet Music. |
