Thomas Mifflin Boldly Signed 1792 Land Grant Document

THOMAS MIFFLIN (1744-1800). Considered among the Founding Fathers; Revolutionary War Major General in the Continental Army; 1st & 3rd Quartermaster General of the Army during the American Revolution; Member of the Pennsylvania Provincial Assembly,; Continental Congressman from Pennsylvania; 7th President of the Continental Congress; Delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1787; served as Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, President of the Pennsylvania Supreme Executive Council, and was the First Governor of Pennsylvania.

August 27th, 1792-Dated Federal Period, Partially-Printed Document Signed, “Thos Mifflin” as Governor of Pennsylvania, Fine. Here, current Governor Thomas Mifflin, the ex: Revolutionary War Major General and President of Continental Congress, to survey 400 acres of land for Michael Ege Jun'r, stating: "Provided the land is not within the last purchase made of the Indians". Document is Signed by Thomas Mifflin and John Barron Jr., measuring 13” x 8” horizontal format, printed on laid period paper having some age tone and splits along the folds, some small holes as shown. The signature Signed, “Thos Mifflin” at the upper left margin is vivid rich brown and huge measuring 2.75” long.


Thomas Mifflin (January 10, 1744 - January 20, 1800) was an American merchant and politician from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was a Major General in the Continental Army and the 1st and 3rd Quartermaster General of the Army during the American Revolution.

Mifflin was a Member of the Pennsylvania Provincial Assembly, a Continental Congressman from Pennsylvania, President of the Continental Congress, and a Delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1787, whereby several of these activities qualify him to be counted among the “Founding Fathers”. He served as Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, President of the Pennsylvania Supreme Executive Council and was the First Governor of Pennsylvania.
