September 11, 1769, Colony of South Carolina, Large Format, Hand-Written Dates, Fifty Pounds, PMG graded Choice Fine-15.
Fr. SC-67. THE NEWMAN PLATE NOTE. Yet another major highlight of our Inaugural Winchester, Virginia auction. This note Signed by Tho. Evance, being Unlisted Signer on the issue, plus D. Huger, J. Lloyd, (vertically) another Unlisted Signer of the issue, and Jacob Motte, as Public Treasurer. Printed in large format measuring 152mm x 112mm. This note is deeply printed in rich black for most of the text, the manuscript portions are complete. Its holder states net graded due to being repaired, severed and reattached, some old fiber tape reinforcement used by old-time collectors remains stabilizing the paper on the reverse side as shown. The prior expert conservation has stabilized this note for decades to come and its appearance is remarkable for this important South Carolina major rarity. Likely another opportunity will not appear and the superior eye appeal of this note makes it worthy of strong consideration. Lacking in virtually all collections and perhaps the finest specimen one can acquire.
Pedigree: From Stack's sale of the John J. Ford, Jr. Collection, Part III, May, 2004, Lot 804.
