c. 1790, Anti-Slavery Theme British Copper Halfpenny, Conder Token. Obverse Legend: “Am I Not a Man and a Brother” and Reverse of “May Slavery & Oppression Cease Throughout The World”. Lettered Edge. D&H-1038 (Middlesex). Extremely Fine.

Dalton & Hamer 1038. 28 mm. Great Britain issued Anti-Slavery token to decry the institution of Slavery to their Anti-Slavery allies. The reverse legend is a sentiment that remains appropriate even today. The edge on this example is Lettered Edge: PAYABLE IN DUBLIN OR AT BALLYMURTAGH (the machine that applied the edge lettering slipped and the edge reads “DUBLINOR”... (perhaps a rare error type). This example is sharply struck with nice detail being dark chocolate brown in color.
