August 13th, 1780-Dated Revolutionary War Period, Unique Serial Number “1”, Partially-Printed Document Signed, “James Bagley - W.M.G.L.”, at Lebanon, Lancaster County, PA., being a “Pennsylvania” Interest Bearing Bond, Anderson listed as PA-2, fully executed for the Purchase of a Horse by the United States Continental Army, Choice Very Fine.
There is Only 1 Serial Number 1 Existent. An important Interest Bearing Bond used for suppling urgently needed horses for the Continental Army. This excellent quality fully executed and signed example bears the Unique SERIAL Number “1”, having fully wide and complete margins with the standard indent at left. (Paid then with "Sixty for one in Continental" paper money currency notes due to Inflation.) Recorder Interest Bearing Certificate, Anderson reference book “The Price of Liberty” listed as PA-2. A historic official Document, it measures 8” x 7.75” is printed in deep black on clean laid period paper.
Payment for “...one Bay horse 4 yrs old, fourteen hands high for the wagon...”, and appraised in value by “two Freeholders, on Afermation (Affirmation).” Typical numerous ink notations, and endorsements on the blank verso. The right edge indented border’s ornate design has the partial text “(PENNSY)LVANIA”. Impressive eye appeal, being boldly typeset and written in rich brown ink. Docket on the blank reverse reads, in full: “Lancaster County No. 1 in favour of Geo. Wambler - Paid Sept. 8, 1781 - Philip Greenwald - 25 Pounds”. |
