April 1st, 1773, Virginia James River Bank Note, Twenty Shillings, Signed by “Peyton Randolph” & “John Blair” plus “Robert Carter Nicholas” Treasurer, Very Fine. Manuscript written date. Light soiling on the reverse,. Fr. VA-62. This note is Printed on both sides, rectangular in shape, measuring about 6.5” long x 3” tall. “Death to Counterfeit” printed on the back, with an indented margin at its left margin edge. All handwritten portions, comprising most of the note, are easily readable, and the printed portions are likewise fully present printed in black on the evenly toned laid period paper. Overall, solid in its appearance and eye appeal for this scarce 1773 Virginia currency issue. Nicely signed in brown ink at bottom left “Peyton Randolph” and “John Blair” being sharp and clear. 20 shillings is the lowest denomination note on this issue, therefore typically receiving the highest public circulation, such that nice quality examples are scarce. |
