January 16, 1865-Dated Naval Document with the Historic Signatures of Rear Admiral Davd Porter and Secretary of the Navy Gideon Welles: Order to “proceed to Hampton Roads Va., without delay, and report to Rear Admiral D. D. Porter for duty in the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron.”

Gideon Welles sends a Lieutenant from the Mississippi Squadron at Cairo, Illinois, to report to Rear Admiral David Porter at Hampton Roads, Virginia "without delay."
January 16, 1865-Dated Civil War Partially-Printed Document, Framed, has two open pages being shown, the 2nd page being the reverse final page, with a Signed Docket, both pages individually measure 10" x 8", printed on white "Navy Department" headed wove period stationery, Signed by Secretary of the Navy Gideon Welles, to Acting Volunteer Lieutenant Thomas E. Smith, Mississippi Squadron, Cairo, Illinois, Commanding the U.S.S. Linden, and ordering that:
"On the reporting of your relief, Act'g Vol. Lieut. T. A. Harris, regard yourself as detached from the Mississippi Squadron and you will proceed to Hampton Roads Va., without delay, and report to Rear Admiral D. D. Porter for duty in the North Atlantic Blockading Squadron".
At top left is an Autograph Endorsement Signed, by Acting Rear Admiral Samuel P. Lee: "Forwarded Jany 21st/65. S. P. Lee, A.R.A." - Samuel Phillips Lee, (1812-1897), was born in Virginia, Grandson of Richard Henry Lee and Third Cousin of the Confederate Commanding General Robert E. Lee. Samuel P. Lee remained loyal to the Union at the outbreak of the Civil War, and as acting Rear Admiral, he Commanded the Mississippi Squadron from 1864 until the end of the Civil War.
On the blank final page back is an Autograph Endorsement boldly Signed by Rear Admiral David Dixon Porter in receipt, Signed, "David D. Porter, Rear Adm", confirming that Lt. Smith reported to him, as ordered.
Together, professionally Framed fully to 26’ x 22.25” (expensively) modern mounted with custom multiple cut outs matted along with photocopied Portraits of Porter, Welles and S.P. Lee all shown through protective special UV Museum Plexiglas, measuring to an overall size of 24" x 20.5", Choice Very Fine. The document itself is completed in rich brown ink manuscript, normal folds, minor toning, and sharply signed. An impressive eye-catching attractive display that is of very interesting historic content, having all three Major Notable Civil War Naval Signatures present on one document !
