c. 1800 Gorgeous, Exceedingly Rare Liverpool Black Transfer-Printed Creamware Herculaneum Pottery, England, with Thomas Jefferson & George Washington Portraits: “HE IN GLORY ... AMERICA IN TEARS.” GEORGE WASHINGTON with a Standing “JEFFERSON.”, Choice Mint.
An wonderful Liverpool Transfer-Printed Creamware, Thomas Jefferson Herculaneum Pottery Pitcher, England, one side: with a Full-length Standing Portrait of Thomas Jefferson with foliate border, See: Arman J.25 illustrated on page 118 with a (1990) $20,000.+ value provided; the other side: with right-facing Portrait of George Washington encircled by leaf and berry border, with text reading, “He In Glory / America In Tears.” See: Arman W.37 illustrated on page 205, with a (1990) value of $1,800 (without the Jefferson) with additional monogram “PHE”, and the Great Seal of the United States in black transfers beneath the spout. A decorative floral design transfer seen below the handle. Height 9 3/8 inches. A magnificent example is virtually Mint quality with only light wear seen on the base from placement, having obviously been kept safe and likely never used, being a valuable cherished treasure. A superb condition, possibly Finest Known, exceeding rare and important JEFFERSON / WASHINGTON historical creamware Pitcher.
