ABRAHAM LINCOLN - The Ultimate Lincoln Collectible meant for Display, Silver “Seated Lincoln” after Sculptor Gutzon Borglum's first original version created in 1911, being life-sized and cast in Bronze, which stands outside the Essex County Courthouse in Newark, New Jersey, Number 29 of only 56 cast in .999 Fine Pure Silver, this Certified to contain 1,140 Troy Ounces, With its Complete Documentation Folio, virtually as made Mint.

Titled, "Seated Lincoln" and taken from the original plaster Marquette by Gutzon Borglum, contains 1,086 ounces of pure silver. The artist's signature appears in script form, incised on the top open portion of the bench placed prominently next to Lincoln. This example is number 22 out of an edition of 56. It was authorized by the Borglum Historical Foundation in 1990, and produced by the Silversmiths Group USA, in conjunction with the Liberty Mint, and cast by the Maiden Foundry Company. This information is inscribed on the underside of the bench ("Seated Lincoln Reg. No. 22/56 Cast From Gutzon Borglum Original Plaster Marquette 1000+ Troy Oz. .999 Pure Authorized by Borglum Historical Foundation Produced by Liberty Mint Silversmith Group. Cast By Maiden Foundry Company 1990").

This powerful image that shows President Abraham Lincoln with head bowed, wearied by four years of bitter Civil War conflict, is one of the most famous and finest of Lincoln sculptures. On viewing it is easy to sense Lincoln's utter exhaustion and frustration as he slumps forwards to sit on a bench to rest. This example measures 20.875" x 25.75" x 14.75", and particularly cast in this impressive pure silver, it has a truly remarkable almost overwhelming presence. The silver has acquired a lovely patina over the years. We note that Heritage Auctions records having sold a similar example weighing slightly less, in February 2007 for $33,460 (Note: On February 1, 2007 the .999 silver bullion price was $13.58 per Troy Oz.).

Having achieved the significant value premium as an Artwork realizing being about “Triple” its $13,560 metallic content value achieved in 2007 at auction, it is totally consistent to currently factor that same 3x acquisition premium today for such an important major rarity. This Number 29 is accompanied by its original red leatherette folio, containing the various promotional information by Larry Ruff for the “Liberty Mint” including: An 8-page brochure; a glossy full color promotional piece; a Mount Rushmore related printed official letter signed by the President of the “Borglum Historical Center” Keystone, South Dakota; its prior “Bill of Sale” Certificate dated 7/19/99, documenting this example as Number 29/56 cast with price then paid and its official weight of 1,140.393 troy ounces of .999 pure silver; and “Unpacking Instructions” with care and maintenance.

This cataloger found it of interest to note, as a brochure P.P.S.: “The Seated Lincoln might be tax deductible id it is purchased through your business. Your accountant can give you more specific information.”
