1897 Alaska “Protection of Fur Seals in Bering Sea” by President McKinley, 64 Page Rare US Senate Document
December 18, 1897-Dated Senate Document No. 40, titled, "Protection of Fur Seals in Bering Sea,",in which President McKinley transmits a Report of Secretary of State John Sherman and Copies of Correspondence of Record in the State Department, "Touching the Protection of Fur Seals in Bering Sea and the North Pacific Ocean," Fine.

This important Senate Document details efforts at international cooperation to prevent over exploitation of the seal herds, and included dozens of letters between the State Department, British Officials, John Hay, the Minister to Great Britain (and Abraham Lincoln's young secretary), 64 pages, measuring 5.75" x 9.25". Slightly detached staple binding, short edge tear in last page. A rare early Alaska conservation document.
