1864-Dated Civil War Period Imprint titled, "Speech of Hon. John P. Hale of New Hampshire on Frauds in Naval Contracts, In The United States Senate, May 23, 1864.”, Printed in Washington: by H. Polkinhorn, Printer, 16 pages, Complete, Fine.

In this Senate Speech, Senator John P. Hale details frauds perpetrated on the Navy Department and within the Navy in multiple, various Naval Contracts. This scarce Civil War date imprint measures 5.75" x 9" complete, includes its original printed wraps. John P. Hale was a Republican Senator from New Hampshire, serving 1847-12853 and 1855-1865. His daughter, Lucy Hale, was secretly betrothed in 1865 to John Wilkes Booth, the Assassin of President Abraham Lincoln. Two light horizontal bends, well printed with a clean interior, the original outer wraps are intact yet partly separated with light wear from actual use. A most important topic even today, as a major area of investigation to save federal dollars and cut costs.
