(ABRAHAM LINCOLN ASSASSINATION). Original Printed Invitation from the Adjutant General of New Hampshire to attend the Funeral Eulogy on Abraham Lincoln at Concord, on June 1, 1865 - the National Day of Mourning, Choice Extremely Fine.

1865 Circular No. 1 - An original Printed Invitation from the Adjutant General of New Hampshire to attend the Funeral Eulogy on Abraham Lincoln at Concord on June 1, 1865 - the National Day of Mourning proclaimed by President Andrew Johnson, as proclaimed on April 29th. Lovely presentation, with 4 pages (printed on 1st and 3rd pages), about 5"' x 8". Headed, "GENERAL HEAD QUARTERS, State of New-Hampshire. Adjutant General's Office, Concord, May 5, 1865", with an illustration of the NH State Seal surmounted by an American Eagle and surrounded by Flags, Cannon, Drums, etc. to be delivered at Concord by Congressman James W. Patterson, and invited the people of the State to assemble there, "without distinction of party", and gives instructions for delegations, veteran soldiers of NH Regiments, and much more.
Some excerpts include:

"For the information of the people of New Hampshire, the following is promulgated:

1st. The Hon. J. W. Patterson, of Hanover, has accepted an invitation from the Governor and the Honorable Council, to deliver a Funeral Eulogy on the late lamented Chief Magistrate of the United States. at the Capital of New Hampshire, on the first day of June; being the day designated by President Johnson, for further memorial service to ABRAHAM LINCOLN.

2nd. The people of the State are cordially invited to assemble at their Capital, on the day above designated, and unite, without distinction of party, on some more formal tribute of respect to the memory of the pure-minded patriot and honest man, who was struck down by a cowardly assassin, while holding the highest office in the gift of the American people...

4th. The Veteran Soldiers of New Hampshire regiments are especially invited to be present, when their State pays the last tribute of respect to the memory of their late Commander-in-Chief. The post of honor will be assigned them, on this occasion. Each organization will be entrusted with the battle-flags which it has borne through the terrible chances of war; and marshaled by the ranking officer who may be present.

His Excellency the Governor is endeavoring to make such arrangements as will ensure the free transportation of discharged and disabled soldiers to Concord and return....

6th. It is believed that the people of New Hampshire will, in general, avail themselves of this occasion to make public manifestation of their love and respect for our late President. How much we loved him, we knew not, until he was taken from us.

'He was always a true friend to the Republic.' Can a more proud title be worn by an American; and can one wear it as proudly he?

Be this the thought we would put upon his tombstone:

'The more we knew him, the more we loved him. The more he was tried by the common danger, the more he was trusted by the people.'

Because he loved the nation, the nation now weeps for him; because he labored in our behalf, we hold him in affectionate remembrance.

In just appreciation of his integrity, we will honor his memory.

By order of His Excellency the Governor:

Natt Head, Adjutant General."
