MARQUIS DE LAFAYETTE (1757-1834). Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette, known in the United States as “Lafayette” was a French aristocrat and military officer who fought in the American Revolutionary War, Commanding American troops in several major battles including the Siege of Yorktown; close friend of George Washington; Later, Commander of the “Gardes Francoises” in Paris.

November 4, 1828-Dated, Autograph Letter Signed, “Lafayette” 1 page, measuring 8.75” x 7.25” well written in French on wove period paper, Framed, Very Fine. This letter sent on behalf of a friend to “M. Duelos” an attorney, urgently requesting the prominent attorney consider assisting his friend in a legal case, writing, in part: “Young Boyer is being held in the Metun remand center. His parents have a certificate from Mr. Preschez, a prisoner of Rosoy, which can only be very useful to him.”

“La Grange, November 4, 1828. --- We are writing to you, Sir, in favor of a young man from Rosoy, I invite your family, who is very much exalted by those who have relations with him: his name is Boyer and he is involved in a case, where it seems that for his part he is more than likely to get involved. Having been informed of this misfortune, the opinion of a person and specifically of the Justice of the Peace of the case, Normanz, is very serious. The parents of this young man wish that you would be so kind as to take up and defend him. You beg to have the good one to hear him, and if you think, as I believe, that he is innocent, it would be very desirable for you to be able to defend yourself. I eagerly take advantage of this opportunity to renew to you, and to Mrs. Suelos, the expression of the attachment that I have for you with all my heart. -- (Signed) Lafayette”.

(Postscript) “Young Boyer is being held in the Metun remand center. His parents have a certificate from Mr. Preschez, a prisoner of Rosoy, which can only be very useful to him.”

(To:) “M. Duelos”

Handsomely ornately framed with an image of Lafayette with a plaque below reading, “Marquis de Lafayette 1757-1834 - Major General American Revolutionary War” and display framed within an impressive burgundy silk mat.
